Hunting & Gathering on LinkedIn

Whether they are prospective clients, candidates or joint venture partners, foraging for leads can be an arduous process when you do not know how to hunt on LinkedIn.

Not unlike many free online tools, the free version of LinkedIn has its limitations. However, one level of LinkedIn premium that is by and large the most powerful individual subscription is Sales Navigator.

Do you remember Bill’s several hundred thousand dollar win from the previous blog article? He thought broader (level one) by extending his network reach to his LinkedIn groups and was in a groove (level two) by consistently nurturing those relationships. What Bill also had at his fingertips was an upgraded toolset (level three) via Sales Navigator that allowed him to more quickly identify the people he wanted to target.

Our clients fall into one of three categories with Sales Navigator:

  1. Never heard of it

  2. “Tried it a while ago and it didn’t work”

  3. Have it and know 15% (generously) of how to actually use it

As humans, we are creatures of habit. So, even if you have Sales Navigator currently, chances are high that you could use a refresh on the two dozen filters at your disposal to hunt more productively for your leads:

  • Keywords
  • Geography
  • School
  • Relationship
  • Industry
  • First name
  • Last name
  • Profile language
  • Custom lists
  • Past lead and account activity
  • Seniority level
  • Function
  • Title

Beyond the amazement of finding your leads more effectively, when you save the search, you will receive an alert of anyone new who fits your search criteria; yes, they will automatically be added to your leads results. If that isn’t hunting and gathering at its best, I’m not sure what is!

However, leads are only as good as what you do with them, right? But that is a conversation for an entirely separate discussion. For now, make lead generation easier on yourself.
